An Oily Mama’s 5 Favorite Essential Oil Recipes

What the heck is an essential oil anyway?  Is it an oil that is essential that I have?  Well, yes and no.  By definition essential oils are “naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds that are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. Essential oils give plants their distinctive smells, essential oils protect plants and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and their beautiful fragrance, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices (Doterra).”

Essential oils have so many great health benefits!  There is literally an essential oil for everything!  I love that they are a pure, natural and drug free alternative to countless ailments.  Natural and drug free is what chiropractic care is all about, right?  Essential oils are a great way to help you lead a more holistic lifestyle and are a great supplement to your chiropractic care.  When choosing essential oils, make sure to select oils that are therapeutic grade.  This means they are 100% pure and do not contain any germs, heavy metals, or adulterants.  If you’re trying to live a more holistic lifestyle, you wouldn't want to introduce anything to your body that is harmful, right?

I’ve been familiar with essential oils for a few years now, but I’ve only started using them seriously a few months ago.  They have become part of my family’s daily routine.  My favorite ways to use essential oils are topically and diffused; we diffuse them every single day.  I tend to find great recipes on Pinterest.  I am excited to share with you 5 of my favorite essential oil recipes that I’ve tried and love!  Please note, any of these recipes can be adjusted to best meet your needs.  It is important to keep in mind when using oils topically on your little ones that it is best to use them cautiously.  I like to avoid topical use until my children are at least 6 months old and when I do use them topically it is best to make sure your recipes are extra diluted for their fresh sensitive skin.  The recipes below that are meant for little ones were adjusted to meet my 1.5 year old’s needs.
